چکیده

Hydraulic turbines are increasingly used to regulate the electrical grid. They thus have operate more often at off-design conditions where instabilities may develop leading large pressure pulsations decreasing life of machines. In present study, an adjustable guide vane system in draft tube a single regulated hydraulic turbine is developed. The aim mitigate when operates part load operational regimes without significantly compromising efficiency turbine. system, named DTGV, composed three vanes. Each vanes comprise two individual hydrofoils. upper hydrofoil can rotate around axis up ±45°, and lower fixed. Therefore, adjustable. rotating vortex rope mitigation was investigated part-load 12 m head, a) Q/QBEP = 0.59, b) 0.71. results indicate that DTGV mitigates pulsations, thereby improving flexible operation best outcome for 0 GV configuration both operating conditions. effects better condition approaches BEP, mode tends go towards runner frequency (f/f0 1). found be marginally affected by operations improved point (Q/QBEP 1) high 1.21.

Numerical simulation of a cavitating draft tube vortex rope in a Francis turbine at part load conditions for different σ-levels

In the present study, numerical investigations of a Francis turbine at model scale are performed. A part load operating point is selected for the analysis with a focus on the cavitating draft tube vortex rope. For three σ-levels, different aspects are investigated. First, the extension of the vapor volume is analyzed and compared to high-speed visualization recordings from the measurements. Fur...

Detection and analysis of part load and full load instabilities in a real Francis turbine prototype

Francis turbines operate in many cases out of its best efficiency point, in order to regulate their output power according to the instantaneous energy demand of the grid. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to analyse and determine the unstable operating points for these kind of units. In the framework of the HYPERBOLE project (FP7-ENERGY-2013-1; Project number 608532) a large Francis unit...

Detecting Nonlinearity in Pressure Data inside the Draft Tube of a Real Francis Turbine

A general method for testing nonlinearity in time series is described and applied to measurements of different pressure data inside the draft tube surge of a real Francis turbine. Comparing the current original time series to an ensemble of surrogates time series, suitably constructed to mimic the linear properties of the original one, we was able to distinguish a linear stochastic from a nonli...

Numerical Study of a Pipe Extension Effect in Draft Tube on Hydraulic Turbine Performance

Draft tube of Francis type hydraulic turbine usually consists of: cone, elbow and diffuser. On the contrary, in some power stations an extra pipe should be added to the draft tube at the bottom of cone because of installation limitation. In this paper, this special case has been numerically studied. To this end CFD analysis was applied to simulate all parts of hydraulic turbine. A homogeneous m...

Methodology for Risk Assessment of Part Load Resonance in Francis Turbine Power Plant

At low flow rate operation, Francis turbines feature a cavitating vortex rope in the draft tube resulting from the swirling flow of the runner outlet. The unsteady pressure field related to the precession of the vortex rope induces plane wave propagating in the entire hydraulic system. The frequency of the vortex rope precession being comprised between 0.2 and 0.4 times the turbine rotational s...
